LAWRENCE — Music lovers of all stripes — whether looking for additions to their vinyl record collection or a new set of speakers — are sure to find an abundance of treasures at bargain prices at this year’s “For Your Ears Only,” a fundraiser benefitting Audio-Reader.

This year’s sale, the 9th annual event, is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St., in Lawrence.

Friday evening features a DJ, free food and prizes donated by local businesses and first pick of the extensive selection. Advance tickets are available for $7 at Audio-Reader, 1120 W. 11th St. in Lawrence. They are $10 the night of the event. Admission is free Saturday with many items slashed to half price after noon.

Dave Dunford, the Audio-Reader volunteer who tests and prepares all of the donated audio equipment, says that there will be many quality pieces available at the event.

“Featured items include B&K model 602 speakers, a Crown SL-2 preamp, Marantz 2230 receiver, KEF model 100 mini monitors, KLH 17, Fisher integrated amplifier, Scott speakers and compact system and many more,” said Dunford.

In addition to audio equipment, thousands of vinyl records, including an eclectic mix of Elvis Presley, Beatles and Bob Dylan titles will be for sale, as well as an entire box of ‘80s remix albums and selections in every genre from country to classical to hard rock. Most records will be priced at $1, CDs will be marked at $3 and audio equipment will be sold below market price.

All items for the sale were donated by generous individuals and businesses from Lawrence, Kansas City and Topeka.

The Audio-Reader Network, a public service of the University of Kansas, is a free reading and information service for anyone who cannot read conventional print because of blindness or any other visual, physical or learning disability.
