LAWRENCE — University of Kansas School of Business Dean Neeli Bendapudi will join Kansas Speaker of the House Mike O’Neal and other legislators, corporate leaders and academics from around the country at the Indo-U.S. Education Conclave in India next week.

Bendapudi will represent KU at the Dec. 5–7 education summit in the cities of Mumbai and Pune. More than 75 U.S. delegates will visit India for this first-of-its-kind global education event. Participants will meet Indian legislators and tour government and university facilities in an effort to establish relationships with Indian leaders.

The summit will address issues on improving quality of education in India and provide a holistic approach to India’s educational infrastructure. Participants will gain greater understanding of educational policies in India and discuss the country’s academic quality assurance and accreditation. The summit is hosted by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) and Alliance for U.S. India Business (AUSIB).

“I am honored and excited to be invited on this trip by Speaker O’Neal,” said Bendapudi, who earned an MBA from Andhra University in India in 1985, where she also did her undergraduate work. “As a native of India and now a citizen of the United States, I am returning home to represent the state of Kansas and my fellow Jayhawks as I build key relationships with Indian leaders. The KU School of Business prides itself on its global worldview and international study opportunities. This trip will allow our school to grow and network in India.”

Other legislative participants include house leaders from Wyoming, Indiana, Georgia and Ohio, among others. Corporate leaders from IBM, The Home Depot, Motion Picture Association of America and Comcast Cable will also attend the summit.

“India and the United States maintain many parallels as countries,” said Ken Morton of the SLLF. “India is the world’s largest democracy, and this summit will allow leaders from both countries to establish relationships and share ideas to grow business, education and government between the two economic powers.”

Speaker O'Neal has two degrees from KU. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English in 1973 and his law degree in 1976.
