LAWRENCE — These sounds are so sweet, they're For Your Ears Only.

Vinyl record collectors, audiophiles, musicians and anyone who loves music will not want to miss For Your Ears Only, Audio-Reader's annual benefit sale of vinyl records, CDs, audio equipment and more.

This year's sale, the 10th annual event, is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St.. Friday evening will feature a DJ, free food, prizes donated by local businesses and first dibs on everything. Advance tickets are available for $7 at Audio-Reader, 1120 W. 11th St. They are $10 the night of the event. Admission is free Saturday with many items slashed to half-price after noon.

This year's sale inventory received a nice boost from the Marr Sound Archives at the University of Missouri Kansas City music library. The archives had amassed several copies of jazz and classical records, and they wanted to donate the extra LPs to a good cause. Local record stores and collectors also came through with donations of rock and pop LPs and CDs as well as selections in classical, country, comedy and numerous other genres.

In addition to thousands of vinyl LPs, Audio-Reader also received hundreds of pieces of audio equipment and a selection of musical instruments — including a few bagpipes — from a local musician. The selection also includes DVDs and audio books.

"All items for the sale came from generous individuals in Lawrence, Kansas City and Topeka," said Feloniz Lovato-Winston, Audio-Reader development assistant and For Your Ears Only coordinator. "Any music lover can find something that fits their collection or an upgrade to their home stereo. And best of all, the proceeds help provide reading services to thousands of blind and print-disabled individuals in Kansas, Missouri and beyond."

Audio equipment available at For Your Ears Only includes:

• A professional studio mixing board
• More than 200 tuners, amplifiers and receivers by brands such as Kenwood, JVC, Yamaha, Scott, Technics and Pioneer
• More than 400 record changers and turntables by brands such as Dual, Technics, Kenwood, Pioneer and Fisher
• A complete road style commercial PA system, complete with road cases
• A set of excellent condition Mackie stage monitors

Proceeds from For Your Ears Only will benefit Audio-Reader's listeners.

The Audio-Reader Network, a public service of the University of Kansas, is a free reading and information service for anyone who cannot read conventional print because of blindness or any other visual, physical or learning disability.
