Nominations sought for Campus Art Walk
LAWRENCE — An exhibition featuring art created by University of Kansas staff and faculty will be Thursday, Oct. 3, in conjunction with KU's third annual Campus Art Walk event. Selected works for the second annual event will be displayed from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the second-floor rotunda of Strong Hall.
Any current KU staff or faculty member is encouraged to submit images of up to three works of original art for consideration. Applicants should email Andy Foat with a digital image and description of each submission, including the work's title, medium and dimensions, as well as any statement the artist chooses to include. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.
Foat will coordinate the evaluation process, and selections will be made based on artistic merit and with a goal of representing a broad variety of styles, content and media. Consideration will also be given to the logistical needs for display. Artists will be notified of the selection Friday, Sept. 27, and selected works should be delivered ready for display by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, to 223 Strong. The art will be available for pickup after the show beginning Friday, Oct. 4, in 223 Strong.
Strong Hall's exhibit will be one of many sites featured along the Campus Art Walk. Other participating locations include Anschutz Library, the Art and Design Building, Dyche Hall, the Kansas Union, Kenneth Spencer Research Library, the Murphy Art and Architecture Library, Spencer Museum of Art, Watson Library and Wescoe Hall. Most participating sites plan to feature works by student or professional artists.
A kickoff event, "Dialogue: The Natural History Museum, Intellectual Cornerstone of KU," will be presented by Professor Ted Johnson from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 3 at Dyche Hall's front lawn.
“This exhibit should help complete the spectrum by highlighting art produced outside of one's 'day job,'" said Foat. "A number of KU employees are artists apart from their careers on campus, and this display attempts to offer a glimpse of the creativity their colleagues may not have seen.”
Foat works as an administrative associate in KU’s Office of Risk Management and Compliance. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual communication/illustration from KU and pursues freelance work himself.
