'Good morning KU' to air 100th episode
LAWRENCE — "Good Morning KU," the university’s daily information and entertainment television program, will celebrate its 100th episode Wednesday, March 26. The live show airs on KUJH-TV Mondays through Fridays when classes are in session. It is produced under the auspices of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
“'Good Morning KU' is the only place on campus where freshmen can immediately join a production crew to help anchor, crew and produce a live daily TV show,” said Dean Ann Brill. “The show provides the kind of hands-on learning that students need to become effective digital storytellers.”
The program began in August 2013, was inspired by "Good Morning America" and has featured guests such as Pulitzer-Prize winning book critic Michael Dirda, ProPublica founder Paul Steiger and “Jayhawkers” director Kevin Willmott. Each show features five minutes of unscripted banter between two co-anchors, a guest interview, a news update and a discussion of current events. Cal Butcher, director of the journalism school’s Media Crossroads in the Kansas Union, is executive producer.
The 100th show will be celebrated with a preparty at 9 a.m., and the show will air at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Brill will be the featured guest, and the public is invited to watch the production through the glass viewing walls on the fourth floor of the union. Viewers can also see the show streamed live at journalism.ku.edu/crossroads.
