KU Endowment provides record $124.1 million to KU

LAWRENCE — Every year, private philanthropy benefits all aspects of the University of Kansas. Fiscal 2014, which ended June 30, continued that tradition: KU Endowment provided a record $124.1 million in direct financial support for KU and The University of Kansas Hospital.

The funds are used according to donors’ specifications; they supported scholarships, fellowships and awards for more than 6,000 students; academic programs in virtually all disciplines; faculty, including endowed professorships; construction of new facilities; and patient care. Funds also enhanced research opportunities, the arts, and library and museum acquisitions.

“It’s rewarding for us to be able to make a KU education affordable for so many students and to provide for the growing needs of the university and hospital,” said Dale Seuferling, president of KU Endowment. “Philanthropic support benefits every student, faculty member and program. It helps propel the university and hospital forward and ensures their long-term vitality.”

Every year, KU Endowment transfers income from endowed funds, along with expendable gifts, according to donors’ intent. Some of these funds were established decades ago, while others were created recently as part of Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, a $1.2 billion comprehensive campaign scheduled to go through 2016.

KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university. The University of Kansas Hospital is a partner in philanthropy with KU Endowment.
