LAWRENCE — With stunning visuals of the Lawrence campus and the people who make it come alive, the university’s 2014 institutional video ad celebrates what it means to be a Jayhawk, from overcoming insurmountable obstacles to changing the shape of the world we live in.

Professionals in the advertising and video production industry have lauded the piece with a premier award.

KU Marketing Communications was awarded a Silver Telly, the highest Telly honor, for Regional TV and Multi-Market Cable in the schools/colleges/universities category.

“As Public Affairs continues our work to elevate the national stature of the University of Kansas, this award recognizes the terrific creative work done by Marketing Communications in support of that effort,” said Tim Caboni, vice chancellor for public affairs. “We are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of individuals here at KU.”

The 30-second spot has appeared online and on television, including during the 2015 Super Bowl program.

“This was a great spot that showcased not only our technical talent but also our ability to bring the KU brand to life in a way that meaningfully connects with our audience," said Gerald Holland, Marketing Communications director.

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards are the premier awards program honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and Web commercials, videos and films. Fewer than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of a Silver Telly.

“This was an internal production, from creative concept all the way down to the voiceover, and the award is well-deserved,” said Tim Seley, associate director for digital media. “Kudos to the many Marketing Communications staff members who helped pull it off.”
