Summer campus construction projects begin

LAWRENCE — Several campus construction projects are now underway, resulting in road closures and detours that will affect traffic and pedestrian routes for the coming weeks and months.

Notable projects include the following:

  • Jayhawk Boulevard reconstruction includes two phases. Phase 1 closes the intersections at 14th Street and Lilac Lane, and it is expected to be complete by June 22. After that, Phase 2 closes Jayhawk Boulevard between Sunflower Road and Lilac Lane through Aug. 1.
  • 15th Street reconstruction closes the portion of the street between Burdick Drive and Naismith Drive through Aug. 16.
  • Irving Hill Road Bridge reconstruction closes the bridge to vehicular traffic through July 31.

Details and maps on all three projects are available at Design and Construction Management’s Construction Closures page. KU students, faculty, staff and visitors are encouraged to visit this site periodically as there may be changes or additional street closures and lane restrictions this summer. Departments that are hosting events should be sure to share this link with guests before they arrive on campus.

Detours are being provided and will be adequately marked. For questions about access to specific program activities during the construction period, contact the Office of Design and Construction Management.

Visitors should also check lawrencetransit.org/routes throughout the summer for information about bus route changes related to construction.

In addition, faculty and staff, those driving KU vehicles and contractors are asked to avoid driving on local roads through neighborhoods. Instead they should access campus via main campus thoroughfares, including Naismith Drive, 15th Street and Mississippi Street.
