LAWRENCE — KU Endowment provided $184.6 million in direct financial support for the University of Kansas and The University of Kansas Hospital in fiscal year 2015, which ended June 30. This represents a 48 percent increase over last year’s amount of $124.1 million.

“In keeping with our mission to partner with donors in providing philanthropic support to build a greater university, this is our most important metric of success — growing the level of support for KU,” said Dale Seuferling, president of KU Endowment.

In fiscal 2015, KU Endowment funds provided support for more than 6,500 students and 193 endowed professors and other faculty members. It also provided funding for several new major facilities, including Capitol Federal Hall, the DeBruce Center and Marie S. McCarthy Hall. Private funds also paid for the renovation of Swarthout Recital Hall as well as landscaping for the reconstruction of Jayhawk Boulevard. Funds also enhanced patient care, research opportunities, the arts, and library and museum acquisitions.

Every year, KU Endowment transfers income from endowed funds, along with expendable gifts, according to donors’ intent. Some of these funds were established decades ago, while others were created recently as part of Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, a comprehensive campaign scheduled to go through June 30, 2016.

KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university. The University of Kansas Hospital is a partner in philanthropy with KU Endowment.
