LAWRENCE — Jennifer Wamelink, the University of Kansas Student Housing’s associate director for residence life, has been honored by the Upper Midwest Region for the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International.

The award recognizes Wamelink for outstanding contributions to the professional development of colleagues in college student housing. She received the Robert E. Mosier Professional Enrichment Award during the UMR-ACUHO conference last month in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Wamelink has served many leadership roles in that organization, including president.

“Jennifer was recognized for her service to new professionals and professionals within the field of student housing,” said Diana Robertson, director of KU Student Housing. “I have been pleased to watch Jennifer’s skill over the years as she has taken on progressively more responsibility in Student Housing and across the KU campus in collaboration with campus colleagues. During that time, she has also generously shared her talents with professionals from across seven states through her devotion of significant service to UMR-ACUHO. I am delighted that UMR-ACUHO has recognized her with this award.”

Currently, Wamelink directs the residence life program for 5,000 students living in KU’s nine residence halls, 12 scholarship halls and two apartment complexes. Her work includes overseeing the Residential Curriculum, which focuses on outcomes supporting KU’s undergraduate learning goals and collaborative initiatives with learning communities, undergraduate advising and other campus partners. She also provides leadership for Student Housing’s student conduct and crisis response.

Prior to supervising residence life, Wamelink served as an assistant director and a complex director for KU Student Housing. Previous experience includes working in Student Housing for American University, Marycrest International University and Wake Forest University. She holds a bachelor of arts in history and a juris doctorate from Wake Forest.

The Robert E. Mosier Professional Enrichment Award was established in 1990 and recognizes an individual in the Upper Midwest Region who has made outstanding contributions to the professional development of colleagues in college student housing. Mosier worked for more than 40 years in Student Housing at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.
