LAWRENCE – On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.

Bob DeYoung, the Capitol Federal Distinguished Professor in Financial Markets and Institutions at the University of Kansas and former Federal Reserve economist, is available to comment on the pending rate increase.

Financial markets have already adjusted for the anticipated quarter percent rate hike, DeYoung said. However, if the Fed raises the rate by a half-percent instead, both the bond and stock market will react negatively.

“We can expect additional rate hikes in 2016,” DeYoung said.

DeYoung is a senior research fellow at the FDIC’s Center for Financial Research and co-editor of the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. He is a leading scholar on performance, practice and regulation in the banking industry.
