KU will honor top Lawrence high school scholars


LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little, in partnership with the Office of Admissions, will host the Chancellor’s Top Scholar Reception for high-achieving Lawrence area high school students from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Spooner Hall.  

The reception will celebrate the outstanding scholastic achievement of the top 20 percent of Lawrence area high school sophomores and juniors as well as the commitment from KU to transform the academic potential of these exceptional students with distinguished academic and experiential learning. The Chancellor’s Top Scholar Reception will draw attendance of 300 students and guests from the Lawrence area. Lawrence and KU are interdependent, and the success of KU is tied directly to the success of Lawrence schools and the community as a whole.

KU administration, faculty and staff will mingle with students and guests during the opening reception regarding academic and experiential learning opportunities. The chancellor will serve as opening speaker during the formal program, followed by KU student speakers and two Free State High School alumni, Weston Hack and Dravid Joseph, who will speak on their KU experience and decision to choose the university as Lawrence natives.

Local media members are welcome to cover the event. Event parking is available for guests and media at the Mississippi Garage, located north of Kansas Union. Parking validation will be given to guests and media at the event registration table.
