Information for media covering Commencement

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas invites media to cover the university’s 144th Commencement on Sunday, May 15, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony lasts about two hours. At 10:30 a.m., graduates begin the traditional “walk down the Hill” to Memorial Stadium, followed by a program and the conferral of degrees by Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little.

Two honorary degrees will be presented: Terry Evans, Doctor of Arts, and Brian McClendon, Doctor of Science.

Members of the media are welcome to capture photos or video from any publicly accessible area. News media photographers with credentials and official university photographers will be allowed in the photo pen on the Campanile plaza as space allows, and on the football field. Due to space constraints, only still photography is allowed on the Campanile plaza. Credentials are available by contacting KU News at 785-864-8858.

Unmanned aerial systems, including drones, are prohibited anywhere near Memorial Stadium or the Campanile during the event, per Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Additional details, including an inclement weather plan, are available at commencement.ku.edu.
