KU announces May Employees of the Month

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has announced the May Employees of the Month. They are as follows:

Lewis Ashworth
Lewis Ashworth

Name: Lewis Ashworth

Title: Custodian

What that means: Ashworth works at the Multidisciplinary Research Building on west campus. Ashworth started in 2013 and has been exceptional since his first day. He is fast and efficient, but what really sets him apart is his initiative. Ashworth will always fill in when needed and ask if there is more he can help with.

Ashworth works wisely and pays close attention to detail. He is knowledgeable about the extra projects he is assigned and stays on top of them to make sure they are done on time.

In addition to the thorough and careful work Ashworth completes, he gets along well with everyone. He has been assigned to work with numerous other employees, and there is always a positive outcome. He likes helping others and is quick to assist if a fellow worker is struggling with a duty.

Notable: Recently, the custodial supervisor and assistant custodial supervisor were called in outside of their shift due to a huge building leak around 4 p.m. Typically, that would be when Ashworth is sleeping as he works the night shift. Regardless, he responded to the call for help and came in to help with the emergency. He went on to work a 15-hour shift.

This is just one example, but Ashworth’s supervisors agree that he always goes above and beyond any and all expectations on a regular basis.

David Denning
David Denning

Name: David Denning

Title: IT technology coordinator

What that means: Denning is responsible for coordinating the technology needs of all employees who work in Carruth O’Leary Hall. He handles each request with extremely high technical skills and excellent communication skills. Customers not only get their questions answered and problem solved, but they often learn something new and appreciate his good humor and positive attitude.

Denning routinely demonstrates advanced mastery of the skills and responsibilities required for his position. His knowledge base is very broad, making him an asset to his customers as he is able to answer a wide range of questions and offer a variety of advice. His customers agree that Denning can always be counted on to get the job done quickly and correctly.

Notable: Denning often helps departments with projects that fall outside the scope of typical IT support. He responds the same day and can be reached through chat, email or phone. He never hesitates to take a look at the issue in person or get creative to best solve the problem. His work ethic and integrity make him a model employee. His supervisor has become accustomed to getting stopped in the hall, receiving emails and phone calls from customers who want to recognize Denning for the high quality of his hard work.
