Media advisory: Acting director of the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder to visit KU Medical Center for Champion of Science Award presentation


WHO/WHAT: U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder will receive the Champion of Science award from the Science Coalition, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization of leading public and private research universities. This award is presented to members of Congress whose actions and votes consistently support scientific research. KU Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little will present the award to Yoder.

Dr. Douglas Lowy, acting director of the National Cancer Institute, will speak at the event as a guest of the Congressman. Dr. Douglas Girod, executive vice chancellor of KU Medical Center, and Dr. Roy Jensen, director of the KU Cancer Center, will also serve as hosts for the event.

WHERE: KU Medical Center campus, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas. Hemenway Life Sciences Innovation Center (Beller Conference Center).

WHEN: Event begins at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, but media should arrive early to ensure a seat.

NOTES:

  • Parking for media is available in the Bluff Garage north of the Hemenway building (see campus map). From Rainbow Boulevard, turn east into the Bluff Garage entrance. At the gate, press the call button to access the garage. Park on the top level and walk across the bridge to the Hemenway building.
  • Yoder, Lowy and university officials will be available to the media for questions after the event at 10:15 a.m.
