LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas employees and the Lawrence community should anticipate heavy traffic around 15th and Iowa streets Thursday, Aug. 18, for the primary move-in day for student housing residents.

Traffic around Daisy Hill is expected to be heaviest from about 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The most congested intersections are expected to be:

  • Bob Billings Parkway (15th Street) and Crestline. All cars going to Daisy Hill will enter at this intersection.
  • 19th and Iowa streets. (Cars will cross Iowa to go to long-term parking.)
  • 15th Street and Engel Road. (Cars will exit Daisy Hill.)

At Oliver Hall, which is also near a construction site, two intersections are expected to have traffic:

  • 19th Street and Naismith Drive, and the intersection of Schwegler Road and Naismith Drive.

There may also be increased traffic at 11th and Louisiana streets, which is the location of GSP and Corbin residence halls.

Maps of each area, which were emailed to incoming residents and their families, can be found at the KU Student Housing website.

For those who work on KU’s west campus, Becker Road will be open to local traffic only from Crestline to Constant Avenue. Employees on west campus should be able to park in their regular parking lots. For announcements related to severe weather during move-in day, tune to Kansas Public Radio at 91.5 FM. They will broadcast instructions if needed.

For media:

Media are welcome to attend the event, but news vehicles will not be allowed to cross Irving Hill Bridge and enter the line of cars going to Daisy Hill.
