Dole Institute to host biennial election conferences

LAWRENCE — A group of journalists, academics and political leaders from around the state will explore the 2016 election results at the Kansas Elections Conference, hosted by the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas.

The conference is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30. Introduced in 2014, the panel explores the results of statewide elections and their implications. The 2016 gathering will cover legislative elections, judicial retention elections and a look ahead at what’s in store for the 2017 legislative session.

The Kansas Elections Conference will join the institute’s nationally recognized Post-Election Conference, to be held Dec. 8-9. Details about the Post-Election Conference are forthcoming; a schedule of panels and times can be found at www.doleinstitute.org.

Both events are free and open to the public and will be live-streamed at DoleInstitute.org.

“This is the second time we have hosted a panel specifically examining Kansas elections, and it’s always a fascinating event,” said Dole Institute Director Bill Lacy. “Our panelists will bring great perspective on the results of this year’s statewide races and a look ahead at the issues facing Kansas.”

Panelists for the Kansas Elections Conference:

  • Dave Helling, reporter, the Kansas City Star
  • Jeff King, Kansas state senator (R), District 15
