University community mourns death of KU Libraries staff member Bruce Coburn

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas community is mourning the death of Bruce Coburn. He died Dec. 2 in Lawrence at age 58.

Coburn served KU Libraries as an administrative associate for mail and facilities.

“Bruce Coburn’s contributions to our university spanned more than three decades, during which he worked to keep our university community connected,” said Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little. “We are saddened to learn of his death, and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and to those who knew him at KU.”

Coburn occupied a unique place within the KU Libraries family, said Dean Kevin Smith.

“He was an important member of our team, and his work kept our university community connected,” Smith said. “Those who knew Bruce appreciated his humor and wry perspective; his loss will be felt by us all.”

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee in Leavenworth. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing.
