KU launches Experts at KU faculty expertise portal

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has launched Experts at KU, an online faculty expertise search portal that will help internal and external users find research collaborators on the Lawrence and KU Medical Center campuses.

On the Experts at KU website, users can search by research topic to access a list of researchers with expertise on the topic.

Users may also search by a researcher’s name to see specific information on that person’s publications, creative works, awards, grants and patents.

The portal is designed to encourage research collaborations in disciplines throughout the university. It covers all fields on all KU campuses.

“This website allows potential research partners to search the entire range of expertise available from our KU researchers,” said Mary Lee Hummert, vice provost for faculty development. “From autism to media to zebrafish, anyone interested in finding out more about our specialists in these fields now has a new way to access this information in a user-friendly way.”

The information at Experts at KU is drawn from research publications (journal articles, books, book chapters), creative works (performances, juried exhibits, etc.) and awards in a system that the faculty member has selected for display on the web. The site also pulls information from records of publications and patents compiled from publicly available databases by Academic Analytics.

In addition, the site includes grant data provided by the KU-Lawrence Office of Research and the KU Medical Center Research Institute.

The Experts at KU website is available to the public, making it a useful stop for those at other universities and organizations who want to partner with KU researchers.

“This is a powerful tool for industry leaders, community partners, students and faculty to easily explore the wide scope of research expertise at KU,” Hummert said.
