LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Center for Service Learning (CSL) will host the third annual Service Celebration and Student Service Poster Showcase to recognize outstanding service at KU and in the Lawrence and Douglas County communities.

The Service Celebration honors community partner organizations, whose efforts are vital to the existence of service efforts at KU, and recognizes outstanding service at KU and in the Lawrence community. All KU faculty, students and staff, as well as area community organizations who have partnered for KU volunteer or service learning efforts are welcome to attend. An RSVP for those interested in attending is requested online.

The event will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 26 in the Burge Union, Forum D. Formal remarks will be at 4 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

“The kinds of volunteering and service learning efforts KU students are able to undertake each year wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of dedicated community organizations in Lawrence and the surrounding area,” said Amanda Schwegler, assistant director of CSL. “We’re pleased to take a moment to recognize that work and to celebrate the service efforts of this year.”

A formal program will honor the efforts of community partner organizations, and a juried Student Service Poster Showcase will highlight the best student volunteer and service learning efforts of the year.

The Center for Service Learning fosters mutually beneficial campus-community engagement and promotes service learning as a teaching pedagogy such that community and educational outcomes are met.
