Volunteers needed for Hawk Week Sexual Violence Prevention program

LAWRENCE — On Aug. 24, the University of Kansas Sexual Assault Prevention & Education Center (SAPEC) will train all incoming students to be active bystanders against sexual violence. Through Jayhawks Give a Flock, KU’s evidenced-based bystander intervention workshop, the university has the opportunity to change campus culture and empower its new students to take an active role in preventing sexual violence in their community.

This event is part of Hawk Week and is a mandatory event for all incoming students. With a projected incoming class of more than 4,000 students for the fall 2019 semester, SAPEC needs the assistance of dedicated faculty, staff and graduate students from across campus who are willing to help throughout the day.

Faculty, staff and graduate students can serve in one of two ways: as volunteers who help with onsite check-in or as workshop facilitators.

Volunteers and facilitators can sign up for shifts from 8:30-11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Food and limited-edition Jayhawks Give a Flock T-shirts will be provided to all volunteers and facilitators. Child care will also be provided through Hilltop Child Development Center for children (ages 1-12) of volunteers upon request.

Individuals wishing to facilitate Jayhawks Give a Flock must also complete one of the following facilitator trainings.
