KU heads into next stage of search for executive dean of the College

LAWRENCE — The position description for the inaugural executive dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas has been posted, and applications and nominations are being accepted.

The search committee, led by Simon Atkinson, vice chancellor for research, and Kim Warren, associate professor of history and associate dean of diversity, equity & inclusion for the School of Social Welfare, has fine-tuned the position description to better reflect the complexity and the challenge of this leadership role, as well as the allure of this position at a prestigious, research-intensive Association of American Universities institution.

“We are in a strong position to move ahead with this search,” said Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, provost and executive vice chancellor. “I greatly appreciate the work of the search committee, which sought input from a variety of stakeholders in order to finalize the position description. Through their efforts, we have created a position that will attract great candidates and ultimately support the right candidate as they undertake and realize great accomplishments at KU in the years ahead. I strongly encourage KU faculty and staff to reach out within their extended networks to help us cultivate the best possible applicant pool for this position.”

WittKieffer, an executive search firm specializing in higher education, is assisting with the search process and aiding in development of a robust and diverse candidate pool. Nominations and inquiries can be directed to Lucy Leske, Melissa Fincher or Jevon Walton at KUExecDeanCLAS@wittkieffer.com. Nominations can also be shared directly with Atkinson and Warren. During the summer, advertisements are being placed in a number of appropriate publications, and the committee members are working to build the applicant pool. The goal is to have the position filled by the end of this calendar year.
