AIG chief science officer to give talk on machine learning

LAWRENCE — Machine learning has been around longer than many people realize, according to AIG chief science officer Murli Buluswar, who says it helps to process data in situations where traditional models have failed.

Buluswar will present “The Reality of Machine Learning” at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St. His talk will explore the past, present and future of machine learning technology and its implications for the insurance industry.

Buluswar is chief science officer of multinational insurance corporation AIG, where he leads its newly created science team.

His team is tasked to help the business achieve a competitive advantage by implementing consistent science-driven innovation. The science team’s mission is to establish a world-class research and development function, focusing on data to support AIG’s decision making.

Prior to joining AIG, Buluswar was vice president of enterprise customer experience at Farmers Insurance, responsible for defining and executing a complete customer experience vision with the goal of improving key performance metrics.

He holds a master’s in statistics and economics from Auburn University and an MBA in marketing and finance from the University of Chicago.
