Business school to host annual career fair

LAWRENCE — Recruiters from more than 130 employers are expected to attend the University of Kansas School of Business 2014 Career Fair. The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, on the fifth and sixth floors of the Kansas Union.

The career fair is open to all majors, and students can register on the sixth floor of the Kansas Union in the Malott Room beginning at noon Sept. 18. Professional dress is required for all attendees.

During past career fairs, many of the organizations encourage students to apply for their opportunities online through KU Career Connections.

“Having met and networked with the organizational contacts face-to-face typically increases the likelihood that a student will be invited to interview with the group once you apply,” said Cheryl Webb, who coordinates the career fair. “Employers consistently tell the School of Business staff that the career fair is a key component of their selection process, so it encourages all students to attend.”

To prepare for the career fair, students can attend the “How to Attend a Career Fair,” which will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 in 407 Summerfield, or from 2 to 3 p.m. Sept. 17 in 403 Summerfield. Students can also prepare by attending a seminar titled “Practice Your Career Fair Pitch” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 125 Summerfield.

During the fair, students are encouraged to tweet #KUBUSFAIR for a chance to win an iPad.
