Candidates for IOA director will present in early January

LAWRENCE — Three candidates for the position of director of Institutional Opportunity and Access will be on the University of Kansas campus for interviews and presentations in coming weeks.

The director of Institutional Opportunity and Access (IOA) — often referred to as the Title IX coordinator — manages the university’s obligations under Title IX under the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act. The director’s primary responsibility is to coordinate KU’s compliance with Title IX, Title VII and other nondiscrimination laws on both the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.

The search committee, led by Human Resources Director Ola Faucher, has invited the top candidates for on-campus interviews and public presentations. About two business day prior to each candidate’s presentation, the name of the candidate will be posted online at http://ioa.ku.edu/ioa-director-interviews, and shared through through social media. Candidate presentations will be:

  • Candidate 1: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, Kansas Room, Kansas Union
  • Candidate 2: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, Big 12 Room, Kansas Union
  • Candidate 3: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, Alderson Auditorium, Kansas Union.

The public is invited to attend these presentation and provide feedback on each candidate.

The IOA director provides overall leadership in the development, implementation and administration of policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations as well as KU policies that address nondiscrimination, harassment — including sexual violence — and equal access. The breadth of responsibility also includes equal employment opportunity and affirmative action laws, rules, regulations and executive orders.

The director of IOA ensures that discrimination and harassment investigations and reports are completed in a timely, accurate, thorough, impartial and confidential manner. The director advises university administrators on findings and recommends appropriate response, communications and disposition. The director works to ensure that equal opportunities are provided to all individuals throughout the investigation process.

In cooperation with other campus units, the director will provide leadership in the development and implementation of comprehensive training program for all members of the KU community in the areas of nondiscrimination, including sexual violence and equal opportunity.
