First of three candidates for dean of Social Welfare to visit KU


LAWRENCE — The first of three candidates for dean of the School of Social Welfare will visit the University of Kansas next week to visit the campus community and give a public presentation. 

Paul Richard Smokowski

The search committee, chaired by Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education, will welcome Paul Richard Smokowski, PhD, MSW, Distinguished Foundation Professor for Child and Family Resilience and director of the Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center at Arizona State University, on Monday, Nov. 17. A public presentation will begin at 4 p.m. in the Centennial Room in the Kansas Union. Smokowski also serves as director of the North Carolina Academic Center for Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention and as a research professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

The schedule for public presentations for candidates is listed below. Candidates will be announced 48 hours prior to visiting campus.

The dean of the School of Social Welfare serves as chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Social Welfare and reports directly to the provost / executive vice chancellor. The next dean will be responsible for providing imaginative, effective, dynamic and transformational leadership to ensure the school’s long-term success.
