LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has named Gerald Holland to lead its Marketing Communications team.

Holland is directing the university team that enhances KU's brand through initiatives ranging from features highlighting the research of KU faculty to the annual campaigns to recruit new students. He began in the role Dec. 1.

"Gerald’s experience building an internal ad agency coupled with his background working with well-known national brands will enhance our public affairs efforts at the University of Kansas as we continue to elevate the national stature of our institution,” said Tim Caboni, vice chancellor for public affairs.

Holland, a KU alumnus, comes to the university from VF Corp., where he worked for the Lee Jeans/Rock & Republic Brands in Merriam. Before that, he spent nearly 10 years with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri. Holland helped both companies differentiate their brands in a crowded marketplace.

From 2000 to 2004, Holland worked in New York — in commercial film production and for Stefan Beckman, working on production design and set direction for the fashion industry. At Stefan Beckman, he worked with clients like Vogue, Prada and the Gap.

“I am extremely honored to lead the marketing team at the University of Kansas,” Holland said. “It is a great opportunity to continue the rich story of the KU brand and to create meaningful engagement at every touch point.”

Holland earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from KU in 1998. He graduated with honors from the New York Academy of Art in 2002.
