LAWRENCE – Visual art graduate students are busy working toward the culmination of their graduate college careers: the thesis exhibition. The M.F.A. students have undergone three years of rigorous studio and academic work to determine the what, the how, the why and the meaning of their work.

“This year’s lineup of thesis exhibitions showcases the diverse talents, voices and artistic directions by this gifted group of M.F.A. students,” said Norman Akers, associate professor and director of graduate studies in visual art. “It is a marvelous opportunity to view the exceptional creative efforts coming out of the graduate visual art program here at KU.”

The M.F.A. thesis exhibitions begin Sunday, March 1, in the Art & Design Gallery, third floor of the Art & Design Building. The exhibits will rotate Sundays through the end of the month with closing receptions every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibitions are free, and the public is welcome.

The Art & Design Building is at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive. Visitor parking is available at the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, 1501 Irving Hill Road.

The following are the exhibiting M.F.A. students and the dates of their shows.

  • Mitchell Spain, Iowa City, Iowa, ceramics, “Building to Fall,” March 1-6
  • Greg Stone, Marietta, Georgia, printmaking, “Salad Days,” March 1-6
