Media advisory: Student will bring personal experience with homelessness to K.C. event

OVERLAND PARK — Every night, an estimated 2,000 homeless youths sleep somewhere outside in Kansas City. On Friday, Nov. 7, hundreds more will join them for One Homeless Night, a sleep-out to raise awareness of homeless teens and raise support for Synergy Services, which serves the homeless and others.

This event is personal for one volunteer, Jennifer Morris, a student at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus in Overland Park. Morris herself was homeless at age 13. Today, she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work and a career helping others. She and several other KU Edwards Campus social work students will spend One Homeless Night out. The event will be from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday at 660 Manorcrest St. in Kansas City, Kansas.

Morris wants to share her story. She and her KU Edwards Campus colleagues are available for interview before or during the event. For more information, contact Christine Falk at 913-897-8548 or cfalk@ku.edu.
