Student Employee of the Year announced

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas held a ceremony earlier this month to recognize on-campus student staff and award the Student Employee of the Year for the 2015-16 academic year.

Travis Kesinger, Topeka, an employee in the Student Involvement and Leadership Center, received an engraved plaque and a $500 award.

Finalists for the award included Catherine Herst of the University Career Center, Chad Uhl of the Office of Study Abroad, Jennifer Marcinowski of Americans with Disabilities Act Resource Center for Equity and Accessibility, and Joshua Macy of the Department of Physics & Astronomy.

The five finalists received a brass Jayhawk and were called to the stage with their nominating supervisors. The supervisors spoke to the audience about the students’ contributions to the departments and why the students were nominated. All 25 nominees for the award were called to the stage and received a Jayhawk pin and certificate of recognition.

Vice Provost DeAngela Burns-Wallace spoke during the ceremony about the importance of student employees and building skills that will benefit them in their careers after college. Student Body President Jessie Pringle also spoke and recognized students for mastering the balance of school, work, family and friends.

The Student Employee of the Year award honors degree-seeking students who are currently enrolled at KU working an on-campus job. This award was established to recognize student employees who embody service excellence and dedication while maintaining stellar academic achievements.
