Third College dean candidate to speak Wednesday, Sept. 2


LAWRENCE — Carl Lejuez, professor of psychology and associate dean of research for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland - College Park, will make a public presentation Wednesday, Sept. 2, as a candidate for dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas.

Lejuez is the third of four candidates for the position who will make public presentations during their respective campus visits. His talk will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Malott Room of the Kansas Union.

His research interests cover addictions, personality pathology and mood disorders, with the goal to develop new assessment and treatment strategies. He has received substantial research funding from a number of agencies, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.

At Maryland, Lejuez is founder and director of the Center for Addictions, Personality and Emotions Research. He also serves as the administrative director at the Maryland Neuroimaging Center. He has served as adjunct faculty at the Yale Child Study Center, New Haven, Connecticut.

He is founding editor of the publication Personality Disorders: Theory, Research and Treatment, and has served on editorial boards for Bulletin of Menninger Clinic, Clinical Psychology Review and more.

Lejuez joined the University of Maryland in 2001 after he completed a one-year appointment as assistant research professor at Brown University. He has been an associate dean at Maryland since 2013. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology in 2000 from West Virginia University.

The dean search committee, led by Professor of English Marta Caminero-Santangelo, invites students, faculty and staff to attend all candidate presentations and provide feedback of their impressions. Candidates will share their ideas on the topic “21st Century Challenges to Liberal Arts and Sciences (and how KU will address them).” The university will release information about each candidate roughly 48 hours before his or her talk. The final candidate is scheduled to appear:

  • Candidate 4 presentation: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in Alderson Auditorium, Kansas Union

Candidate presentations will be recorded and will be available for viewing after all candidates have appeared on campus. Evaluations of all candidates are due by 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8.
