University Graduate Fellowship supports doctoral students

LAWRENCE — More than 30 graduate students at the University of Kansas were selected as University Graduate Fellows for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Office of Graduate Studies distributed approximately $1 million in funding to support domestic and international graduate students in 25 graduate programs.

The goal of the University Graduate Fellowship is to prepare doctoral students as innovators and leaders ready to meet the demands of the academy, industry and our global society. The fellowships are given to first-year doctoral students, first-year doctoral students from underrepresented groups and advanced doctoral students completing their dissertations.

“These fellowships are essential to supporting the research mission of KU and its commitment to graduate student development,” says Dean of Graduate Studies, Michael Roberts. “The University Graduate Fellowship supports graduate students in critical stages, their first year in a doctoral degree program and their final year when they are completing dissertations.”

The fellows are provided with a graduate research assistant position as well as tuition support for one year. Having a GRA allows the graduate students to focus on their research and make progress toward completing their degree.
