University Honors Program receives top rating

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Honors Program is one of 11 universities nationwide to receive a “Five Mortarboard” rating in Inside Honors: Ratings and Reviews of Sixty Public University Honors Programs. The program has been top rated in each of the past three editions of the publication (2012, 2014, and 2016).

University Honors Program Director Bryan Young is pleased that the program remains highly rated and gives much of the credit to students and faculty.

“Our Five Mortarboard rating is a confirmation of the incredible students, staff and faculty who are associated with the program,” Young said.

Public University Press rates 60 public honors programs on a set of 12 criteria biennially. The criteria include graduation rate, honors classes, faculty/student ratio, prestigious awards, honors housing, class size and enrollment.

The KU Honors Program puts emphasis on each of these areas to provide the best possible opportunities for students. The program received particularly high ratings in the areas of prestigious national scholarships won by students, the availability of honors courses, and graduation rate.

“The KU Honors Program provides enhanced academic challenge and a community of scholars within the framework of an AAU, research-intensive university,” Young said. “We’re proud to make the academic challenge and support of an elite private institution accessible to students in Kansas.”
