Hornberger selected for NACUBO Fellows Program

LAWRENCE — Jason Hornberger, University of Kansas senior associate vice provost for finance, is one of 16 university business leaders from across the country who will take part in a selective leadership development program.

The National Association of College and University Business Officers announced that Hornberger will take part in the yearlong NACUBO Fellows Program beginning in July.

“This is an excellent and very competitive program, and I know Jason will both contribute, as well as gain, a great deal from this program,” said Diane Goddard, KU chief financial officer and vice provost for finance for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.

The cohort of fellows, the fifth in the program’s history, includes leaders from Princeton University, the University of Massachusetts system, Texas A&M University and many others.

Hornberger was named senior associate vice provost for finance in 2017. His career path at KU began in 2002 and has included numerous roles that have given him broad perspective to KU’s operations. In addition to serving as associate vice provost for business operations, supporting KU’s Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success, Hornberger also worked as assistant director in the Budget Office. Prior to coming to KU, he spent 10 years in corporate finance in the telecommunications sector and five years in the banking industry. Hornberger graduated from Kansas State University with a business degree and has an MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is a certified public accountant.

The NACUBO Fellows Program is designed to provide fellows with support, education and learning opportunities. Fellows will have the opportunity to:

• Develop an understanding of the complexities of the chief business officer role
• Gain broad exposure to the field of higher education
• Understand the key competencies that are required for high performance as a chief business officer
• Enhance management, leadership and communications skills
• Learn how veteran chief business officers have addressed institutional and professional challenges
• Build a network of colleagues who serve as a resource of support throughout the fellow's career.
