KU announces 2016-17 Staff Fellows

LAWRENCE — Neeli Bendapudi, provost and executive vice chancellor, and Mike Rounds, associate vice provost for human resource management, have announced the 2016-17 class of staff fellows at the University of Kansas.

The Staff Fellows Program strives to make KU a stronger institution by providing unclassified professional and university support staff members with opportunities to take part in a structured program of professional development. The program includes skill and leadership development and the opportunity to gain broader knowledge of the university. It also provides each staff fellow with a mentor from KU’s senior leadership to broaden the experience, knowledge and resources available to each of the fellows.

As a follow-up to the April 2016 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Group recommendations and Bendapudi’s September response to the recommendations, the 2016-2017 Staff Fellows project will focus on shaping a diversity education program for KU staff that advances campus efforts to be a welcoming, inclusive environment for people to conduct research, teach, work and learn. Working with the Office of Diversity & Equity and Human Resource Management, this year’s cohort will research and evaluate diversity education programs, with a final recommendation to senior leadership on the types of programming KU staff need to foster an inviting campus environment at KU that raises awareness, respects differences and encourages inclusiveness.

“This pairing of people and project is especially timely,” Bendapudi said. “The Staff Fellows Program does a remarkable job of empowering our people and furthering their leadership skills, and the project they will tackle is of utmost importance to students, staff and faculty. This group of fellows also brings with it amazing insight on this topic and our campus community.”

Staff from the Lawrence and Edwards campuses applied to the program, now in its ninth year. Twelve new fellows were selected. During the academic year, staff fellows work together on a large project with campus-wide relevance. Visit the Human Resource Management website for more information about this year’s project. The Office of the Provost and Human Resource Management jointly coordinate the program.
