LAWRENCE – With a series of virtual events, the University of Kansas Lawrence campus will celebrate International Education Week from Nov. 16 to 20.

An annual initiative between the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week promotes programs that prepare those in the U.S. for a global world and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.

This year’s International Education Week is of particular importance as it will mark KU’s participation in the American Council on Education’s Internationalization Laboratory. The university’s lab steering committee will meet for the first time Friday, Nov. 20. The lab will provide customized guidance and insight to help KU become a global leader among internationally engaged research universities.

“I am deeply excited to be kicking off KU’s Internationalization Lab in collaboration with the American Council on Education during International Education Week,” said Charles Bankart, associate vice provost for International Affairs and one of four co-chairs of the lab’s steering committee. “This is an opportunity for us to think deeply and strategically about our strengths and capacities, reaffirm our long-standing commitment and contributions to international education, and to articulate a clear vision and plan for KU as a global education leader.”

Other events during International Education Week include a virtual trivia contest Thursday, Nov. 19, and a virtual escape room game to highlight KU’s international education opportunities that can be played anytime.

The week will also include virtual recognition of international student leadership through the fourth annual International Student Leader Quest program, as well as the launch of "Where Are They Now?,” a new initiative to highlight the activities and accomplishments of international alumni.

During International Education Week, units across KU can show their support for international students by using a specially designed Zoom background or hanging posters available through ISS.
