LAWRENCE — Discover and enjoy the talents of theatre students and alumni in a variety show supporting the next generation of performing artists at “Fools in Love.”

This show benefiting the KU Theatre Student Enrichment Fund will be 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Maceli’s Banquet Hall & Catering.

The show will feature the talents of the cast of “Little Women – The Broadway Musical,” Kip Niven, Gail Trottier, Doug Weaver, Jeanne and Ric Averill, and more.

“The Friends of the Theatre are putting the spotlight on the outstanding alumni and current students of the Department of Theatre,” said Jack Wright, president-elect of the Friends of the Theatre.

The enrichment fund consistently provides students opportunities to study abroad and travel to professional conferences, which are key experiences for theatre students today.

“There is an expectation in the field, whether a student is going into theatre and/or film production or continuing on with a graduate program, that students have a global perspective and experiences with different cultures,” said Kathy Pryor, managing director of University Theatre. “The students can’t do this without our generous supporters.”

Tickets for "Fools in Love" are on sale online or at the door, $20 general admission and $10 for students. Cash bar and hors d’oeuvres available during the event.

Founded in 1980, Friends of the Theatre (FROTH) serves as a support organization for the University Theatre and its programs, providing members with opportunities to connect with and offer support for student actors, directors and designers, plus faculty and guest artists. Friends of the Theatre plans and hosts receptions prior to "Main Stage" productions, and in addition to enjoying exceptional performances together, members work to encourage broader awareness and appreciation of the KU theatre program throughout the community.

Fundraising by Friends of the Theatre is planned for the benefit of KU theatre students and staff. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding theatre student, and FROTH also provides enrichment funds for students and staff members.

The Department of Theatre is one of four departments in the School of the Arts. As part of the KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of the Arts offers fresh possibilities for collaboration between the arts and the humanities, sciences, social sciences, international and interdisciplinary studies.
