Visual art student's film selected for Autumn Shorts Film Festival

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas visual art student Allison Flom's short film, "Habitual," has been chosen as an official selection of the 2014 Autumn Shorts Film Festival in Somerset, Kentucky. "Habitual" was produced as a student project for the Department of Visual Art's Time-based Media II course, taught by Expanded Media Professor Benjamin Rosenthal during the 2014 spring semester. Although Flom is an undergraduate, Autumn Shorts is an emerging-professional level film festival, receiving submissions nationally.

"As an artist I’ve always been drawn to sexual theory and cyborg anthropology. Studying anatomical structure through technical, surreal and romantic styles has always been my passion," Flom said.

The festival will be Sept. 15-20. Each screening will present a short round of films followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers.

Flom was awarded the 2014 Burrows Art Scholarship as well as the 2014 Betty T. Collard Scholarship from the visual art department. She is a graduate of Olathe Northwest High School and is the daughter of Lorri and Tim Flom, Olathe.
