LAWRENCE — Radwan Ziadeh, Syrian human rights activist, will be at the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas next week. Ziadeh will address the current turmoil in Syria for a Dole Forum at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 17. The event is free and open to the public.

“Dr. Ziadeh’s talk is incredibly timely, and attendees will hear firsthand about Syria’s instability and its struggle to be free,” said Bill Lacy, Dole Institute director.

Radwan Ziadeh is a senior fellow at the U.S Institute of Peace and a Fellow at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), both in Washington, D.C. Since the Syrian uprising started March 15, 2011, Ziadeh has been involved in documenting human rights violations and has testified at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva twice. He has also been involved in opposition activities and was elected director of the Foreign Relations Office for the Syrian National Council in October 2011. The SNC is the main umbrella organization for the Syrian opposition.

This event is co-sponsored by Culturally Speaking: The Center for Cultural and Educational Exchange, providing meaningful opportunities for people of different cultures and ethnicities to interact and form bonds of friendship and understanding.
