University mourns death of student Kristine Andersen

LAWRENCE – University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Anna Neill, chair of the Department of English, issued the following statements regarding the death of student Kristine Andersen.

Gray-Little: "On behalf of the entire University of Kansas community, I offer deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Kristine Andersen. Our hearts and prayers go out to them as they mourn the loss of this young, promising life."

Neill: "The English Department is shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Kristine's death. She was much beloved in the classroom and in the creative writing community. Her instructors, who are heartbroken by this news, describe her as generous, funny, bright, wonderfully irreverent and passionate about ideas."

Andersen died Oct. 7. She was a junior from Olathe, majoring in English. She also was a member of the KU rugby team.

A service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob, Olathe. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. Memorials are suggested to your local Veterans Service Organization.
