Engineering's Flapjacks for Philanthropy set for April 20

LAWRENCE — A Lawrence-area nonprofit organization that helps children in the foster care system is the beneficiary of an annual breakfast fundraiser at the University of Kansas School of Engineering. 

Flapjacks for Philanthropy is set for 8 a.m. to noon April 20 in the Eaton Hall Atrium. The event features all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage links — and plenty of juice and coffee. The pancakes are served in style by Chris Cakes. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 the day of the event. They can be purchased from any SELF Fellow or at the Engineering Dean’s Office. 

Proceeds will go to DCCCA, a Lawrence nonprofit that offers a broad range of services that includes working with foster parents to assist in providing the best possible services for children and families.

Sophomores in the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program host the event and helped select DCCCA from a pool of applicants.

“We really wanted to reach out to community and maximize our impact,” said Olivia Armstrong, a sophomore SELF Fellow in aerospace engineering. “DCCCA is a local organization that does great work for children.”

This is the sixth Flapjacks for Philanthropy event.  Previous beneficiaries include Habitat for Humanity, GaDuGi SafeCenter and Just Food. More than $10,000 has been raised for charity through the fundraising effort.
