Augusto to lead Center for Civic and Social Responsibility

LAWRENCE — As of March 3, John Augusto, assistant vice provost for experiential learning, assumed the directorship of the Center for Civic and Social Responsibility (CCSR). This change comes about after the previous director, Andi Witczak, left KU in November 2014.

“After discussions with KU faculty and the CCSR staff, John has given me a plan for him to assume the directorship on a regular basis. John will maintain his role directing the Center for Undergraduate Research, facilitating experiential learning, and will also direct the Center for Civic and Social Responsibility,” said Ann Cudd, vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies. “CCSR will continue to serve KU faculty and students as well as the community-based organizations that partner with our KU students and faculty. Please join me in congratulating John, and I would encourage you to reach out to him to further the KU mission to educate future leaders and build healthy community partnerships.”

“I am excited to take on this new opportunity, in large part due to the amazing faculty instructors and community partners that work diligently to create fantastic learning opportunities for KU students,” Augusto said. “The CCSR staff have done a wonderful job of promoting and supporting service learning, and I am looking forward to working with them as we support our KU students, faculty and community partners.”

CCSR fosters mutually beneficial campus-community engagement and promotes service learning as a teaching pedagogy such that community and educational outcomes are met.
