LAWRENCE—Bob Davis, the former play-by-play voice of Kansas Jayhawk football and men’s basketball, and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Kyle Clemons will be grand marshals of the University of Kansas Homecoming Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, on Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence. A pep rally at Eighth and New Hampshire streets will follow the parade.

Davis began his tenure with Jayhawk Radio Network in 1984 and broadcast eight of the Jayhawks' 14 NCAA Final Four appearances, including KU's 1988 and 2008 national championships, and half of KU's 12 football bowl games, including the team’s Orange Bowl victory in 2008. He also hosted the weekly radio show "Hawk Talk,” which features KU’s football and basketball head coaches. Davis was inducted this year in the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Clemons is a former KU track and field 400-meter sprinter who earned a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro for running the third leg in the semifinal heat of the men’s 4x400-meter relay. As a Jayhawk, he earned All-America honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and was a two-time Big 12 champion in 2013. Since beginning his professional career in 2014, he is a three-time gold medalist at the World Championships and a bronze medalist at the Pan American Games.

The parade is part of a weeklong celebration that begins Oct. 16 and includes several student and alumni activities, including competitions, community service opportunities and reunions, all of which lead up to the KU-Oklahoma State University football game Oct. 22 in Memorial Stadium. The theme for KU’s 104th Homecoming is “Rock Chalk Super Hawk.” A complete schedule of Homecoming week activities can be found at homecoming.ku.edu.

The student-led Homecoming Steering Committee is directed by Katie Gerard, a Hanover senior in supply chain management. She works with Alumni Association Adviser Jacey Krehbiel, assistant director of alumni programs.
