2017-2018 Student Employee of the Year announced

LAWRENCE — The University Career Center has recognized the 2017-2018 Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY), Hannah Weingartner of Recreation Services.

The SEOTY award recognizes student employees who embody service excellence, dedication and whose academic achievements remain stellar. Weingartner received an engraved plaque and a $500 award at last month's recognition event. She will be entered into the National Student Employee of the Year competition.

“Hannah continually shows leadership in her interactions and mentoring of our younger and newer student staff. Hannah is constantly sharing information, tips and beneficial tactics with our student staff to help them deal with conflict situations and teach them how to communicate effectively with all of the student clubs we work with. Our office would not be the same without Hannah's leadership,” said her supervisor, Dave Podschun, in the award application.

Thirty-three students were nominated and recognized during the awards ceremony. Five finalists were selected. In addition to Weingartner, the finalists included Rena Stair of ecology & evolutionary biology, Jordan Matney-McCorkle of KU TRIO Talent Search, Kelsey Smith of social welfare and Janie Sparks of education administration. Each of the five finalists received a brass Jayhawk.
