LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Music will stage the 70th Annual KU Band Day on Saturday, Sept. 9 with high schools from across Kansas and Missouri participating.

New to this year’s event will be a KU Marching Jayhawks’ performance in South Park at the culmination of the traditional KU Band Day Parade.

A favorite Lawrence tradition, the parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade route will head west from the corner of Seventh and Rhode Island streets, turn south onto Massachusetts Street, traverse downtown and end at South Park. Joining the high school bands in the parade will be the Marching Jayhawks and the 312th Army Reserve Band, which is based in Lawrence. Following the parade, the Marching Jayhawks will give a mini-concert in South Park for participating bands and parade goers.

The Marching Jayhawks will perform again that day at the halftime of the KU versus Central Michigan University football game. Kickoff time is 3 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

As of press time, bands from the following high schools in Kansas and Missouri plan to participate:

Baldwin High School

Chanute High School

Kiowa County High School

Lawrence High School

Lawrence Free State High School

Lincoln Junior-Senior High School

McLouth High School
