Life Span Institute staffer honored for assistive technology outreach

LAWRENCE — Sara Sack, director of Assistive Technology for Kansans and a senior scientist at KU Life Span Institute at Parsons, recently received the 2017 Michael Lechner Award.

Sack was recognized for her work increasing access to technology that people of all ages and all disabilities need to work, play and live in their communities. The award was presented last month at the Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns meeting in Topeka.

The Michael Lechner Award is given annually to a Kansan with a disability who has effectively advocated for changes in his or her community to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

The award is named for the executive director of Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns from 1982 through 1990. Lechner's advocacy activities had far-reaching results in improving independent living opportunities for Kansans with disabilities.
