'Game Changers' exhibition opening at DeBruce Center

LAWRENCE — The KU Memorial Union and KU History Project will host a public gallery opening from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, for the new exhibition “Game Changers” at the DeBruce Gallery, located in the DeBruce Center.

The "Game Changers" exhibition has been produced in partnership with KU History and the Booth Family Hall of Athletics. The exhibition will explore changes to game rules based on some individuals' unique game-play, as well as changes to the overall culture of basketball.

"Basketball began to evolve as soon as James Naismith created it in 1891," said Tim Gaddie, exhibition curator. "He immediately started adjusting the rules to improve the game, and it spread quickly, first across the United States and soon the entire world. Basketball proponents continued to develop the game for the enjoyment of both players and spectators, leaving it more open to cultural changes.”

The opening event will include a curator talk at 5:30 p.m. with Gaddie. Attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments featuring small bites from DeBruce Center's KU Dining Services Courtside Cafe and free commemorative glassware provided by KU Bookstore.
