KU Law introduces LSAT Fee Award

LAWRENCE – A new program offered by the University of Kansas School of Law will cover law school entrance exam fees for selected KU students. Preference will be given to diverse candidates and candidates who have financial need.

KU students who plan to attend law school are invited to apply for the LSAT Fee Award. Recipients will receive a financial award to cover the registration fee for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Awards may also cover exam reporting costs. For more information, visit the Pre-Law Advising website.

Award applications are due by Friday, March 26. A committee will review applications and contact those selected.

Awards are available to students planning to apply to any law school, including KU Law. Students who take the LSAT and apply to KU Law may also qualify for an award to cover application costs.

Leverage Law Group LLC and the KU School of Law are sponsoring the program.

“We hope this program will remove a barrier for students who are considering going to law school,” said Stephen Mazza, dean and professor of law at KU. “Committing to the law school application process can be daunting, and the exam registration fees add up. We are grateful to Leverage Law Group for sponsoring this award to cover those fees.”

The program aims to open doors for law school candidates of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.

“The legal profession needs to reflect the society it serves,” Mazza said. “We are committed to developing programs that address inequity and increase representation, both in the profession and in legal education.”

James Carter, a partner at Leverage Law Group and 2012 KU Law graduate, said the law firm is proud to support programs that provide opportunities for students of diverse backgrounds.

“We are proud to partner with the KU School of Law on this initiative to remove barriers to applying to law school for students from historically underrepresented groups,” Carter said.
