Lecture: 'The Political Representation of Women within Native American Tribal Governments' set for April 24

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas Libraries will host a Gallery Lecture Series presentation by Sierra Watt, a political science doctoral candidate with graduate certificates in women, gender & sexuality studies and indigenous studies. “The Political Representation of Women within Native American Tribal Governments” is the second lecture in the spring Gallery Lecture Series lineup and will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in Watson Library, third floor West.

In this presentation, Watt will focus on women who have been elected to office within Native American tribal governments. She will examine the primary categories of political factors that influence women’s descriptive representation and argue for the need to develop additional tribe-level factors. 

The spring Gallery Lecture Series is developed in conjunction with the Haricombe Gallery exhibition “Side by Side.” The Gallery Lecture Series features interdisciplinary lectures and creative works from scholars and researchers across campus. This lecture is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
