Global Scholars to present at symposium


LAWRENCE — The fourth Global Scholars cohort will present research at the Global Scholars Symposium on Saturday, March 26. The public is invited to the event, from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Big 12 Room at the Kansas Union.

The symposium, coordinated by the Office of International Programs, will showcase the seniors’ research. The topics range from understanding how different cultures learn and process language, to examining how ethnic diversity affects political stability, to using a study abroad experience as inspiration for a new typeface.

The Global Scholars program represents an important opportunity to educate future leaders and empower them to make discoveries and connections in an worldwide context," said Stuart Dayacting senior vice provost for academic affairs and Office of International Programs director of faculty programs. "The Global Scholars Symposium is a culminating event that allows the KU community to explore the research and experiences of these talented and engaged undergraduate students.” 

The Global Scholars program recognizes and encourages undergraduate students who have an interest in global studies and a strong academic record. The students come from a wide range of disciplines across the university. They were selected for their demonstrated interest in global and international studies, plans for studying abroad and potential for continued high academic achievement and leadership. Each student participated in a semester-long seminar course and was paired with a faculty mentor with similar research interests during the mentor's undergraduate studies. Three cohorts are currently participating in the program.
